Jan's Obituary

Janet “Jan” Caroline (Stemm) Pudell, 87, passed away November 17, 2022, at A Place Called Home in Stevensville, MI.

Jan was born March 27, 1935 at home in St. Joseph to Thelma (Priebe) and Alson Stemm. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1953. She lived her whole life in St. Joseph.

While working at the Heath Company, Jan met the love of her life, Allen. On April 14, 1956, they were married and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2006, before Allen passed away in July.

Jan worked at Doering Craft Supplies, which was across the road from her house, for many years. She then volunteered for the hospital giftshop for over 20 years, becoming a buyer for the candy, toys, and lingerie. After Allen passed, she started volunteering at Lakeland COPs for the eye doctor’s surgeries since it was close to home.

Jan loved to bowl, play cards, camp, and spend time with her family and friends. Her family was her everything. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. As the kids and grandkids were growing up, you could find Jan cheering them on at band concerts, choir concerts, soccer games, track and cross country meets, and softball games.

She loved her church family, having been a Sunday school teacher, bell choir, leader of Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed chairing bake sales and other board positions. She also really enjoyed working at the soup kitchen.

Janet is survived by her children, Cheryl (Mike) Glaske of St. Joseph, Stephen (Carol Whitney) Pudell of Benton Harbor; grandchildren, Brandon and Alison Glaske, Amy (Jason) Variell; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hannah Variell; a sister-in-law, Marlene Pudell and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded by her husband Allen, her parents and sister Joyce Bauer.
