Jean's Obituary
Jean Smith passed away Friday June 20th, 2025, at Corewell Hospital in St. Joe. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. Per Jean’s requests, cremation has taken place and her Celebration of Life will be Saturday, June 28th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at the Dowagiac Eagles Club, 101 E. Railroad St., Dowagiac. Jean was born on December 28,1949, to James and Phyllis Ladyga. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Smith, on November 9, 1968, they were happily married till his passing in 2020. She loved having her children, grandchildren and many of their friends who were like grandchildren and great grandchildren over to her house. She would always be ready to cook a meal, her first question when you walked in was “Are you hungry? I can make you something.” Jean loved to crochet blankets for family and friends; she loved gifting them to whoever wanted one made.
Jean is survived by her 3 children Jamie (Scott) Lindsey, Darby (Krin) Smith and Darcie Schaus (Everett Harrington) and her grandchildren Brooke (Daniel) Thomas, Ryne Lindsey, Paige (Seth) Morris, Brittany (Brandon) Villarreal, Nathan Lindsey, Thomas Smith, Jakob Schaus and Adam Lindsey and her great grandchildren Harper and Landon Thomas, Zain Morris and Frankie Jean Lindsey. Her siblings Terry (Karan) Ladyga, Tom Sobieski, Carol Ferrier, Dennis Ferrier, Dana Gutierrez and Dawn Webster many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, parents James Ladyga and Phyllis Schoff and brother James Ladyga.
