Jeanne's Obituary
Jeanne Marie Spitzer, 98 of Stevensville passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 11, 2026.
Jeanne was born December 3, 1927, in Royalton Township to John Lynn and Carrie Bell Robards. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1945. Following graduation, she began working in the canning industry.
On November 13, 1948, she married the love of her life, LeRoy Spitzer. Together they shared many happy years, enjoying time with friends and frequently polka dancing. Following her retirement from Chardon Rubber, Jeanne and LeRoy split their time between their home in Baldwin on Big Star Lake and their winter home in Lake Wales, Florida. After LeRoy’s passing, Jeanne returned to Stevensville to be closer to her children and family.
Jeanne enjoyed playing dominoes and Tri-Ominos, completing puzzles, reading, and attending garage sales. She especially cherished time spent with her sister-in-law, Sandy, and took great pride in being a great-great-grandmother.
She was an Auxiliary Charter Member of the Stevensville American Legion Post 568, serving as an original founding member beginning on June 1, 1948. She was also a member of the Tri-City Legion Auxiliary Bowling League, where her team earned First Place in 1957. Jeanne was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville.
Three years ago, Jeanne moved to Woodland Terrace in St. Joseph, where she quickly formed many friendships. She enjoyed participating in exercise classes and community activities, and especially loved Friday Bingo, where she was affectionately known as the “Bingo Queen.”
Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Diane (Louis) Waldrop of Winter Haven, Florida; daughter, Karen Spitzer of Niles; and son, Dale Spitzer of Elkhart, Indiana. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ricky, Michelle, Brad, and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Devin, Brittany, Ramona, and Chloe; and two great-great-grandchildren, Noelle and Nash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Spitzer; her brothers Ralph and Rich Robards; her son, Lynn Spitzer; her grandson, Nicholas Rice; and many other beloved family members.
A memorial service for Jeanne will take place this spring. Arrangements by Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI, 49085. Please feel free to sign Jeanne's online guestbook at www.starks-menchinger.com.
