Jewell Dean Kelso, 94, of Dowagiac, died Saturday, January 17th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A graveside service will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac, on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 11:00AM, with Pastor Stacey Wilder of Calvary Bible Church, Dowagiac. Jewell was born August 7, 1931, in Hoxie, Arkansas, to Charles & Anna (Sammons) Gravit. Jewell completed her high school education, graduating early as a junior, from Dowagiac Central High School in 1948. Soon thereafter, she married Morris Kelso, on August 29, 1948. Jewell adored raising her three children and after they became adults, she went to college for her nursing degree. She spent over 20 years with Silverbrook Manor Nursing Home in Niles. In her free time, Jewell enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in their activities, gardening flowers and vegetables, baking and traveling.
Jewell is survived by her children – Mary Ann (Philip) Kidman, Charles A. (Tori) Kelso, and Roger (Barbara) Kelso; 6 grandchildren – Kimberly (Randy) Robison, Kevin Kidman, Kristina (Doug) Michels, Nicholas (LaTrenda) Kelso, Eric (Dulce) Kelso and Jacob Kelso; 7 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Jewell was preceded in death by her husband; infant son – Gregory Kelso; parents; and siblings – William Gravit, Karen Przybylinski, and Charlene Tonkin.
