Joann's Obituary

Joann Arent Langeland, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, November 30, 2023 at St. Joe First United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dan Colthorp officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Memorial donations in Joann’s name may be made to St. Joe First United Methodist Church or Caring Circle Hospice. Joann was born December 2, 1936 in Baroda to Lloyd & Lydia (Jahns) Brunke. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, Class of 1955. On March 25, 1961, she married Carl Arent. Joann was employed as an administrative assistant at Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor from 1955 -1962. After raising her children, she returned to work in 1974 until her retirement in 1994. While living in Coloma, she attended the Coloma United Methodist Church where she served as Church Secretary and on the Church Board. Joann was an avid traveler & golfer. She and Carl enjoyed playing golf wherever they were in the US. They also made many trips abroad. She also enjoyed bowling in leagues at Coloma Lanes, Blossom Lanes and Kelley’s Bowl. After Carl’s passing in 1999, she met and married Warren Langeland in September 2003. Their time together was short as he passed suddenly on November 6, 2004. In her free time, Joann enjoyed cooking and baking and entertaining family & friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joanne is survived by five grandchildren-Lucas & Shannon Arndt, Parker, Noah & Brianna Arent; three great-grandchildren Addison, Claire & Skyler Arndt; siblings-Delores Stacey of St. Joseph, William Brunke of Apoka, FL, Robert “Sam” (Diana) Brunke of St. Joseph, Arthur Brunke of Bridgman, Howard (Renee) Brunke of Chandler, AZ, Edwin (Linda) Brunke of Buchanan, Barbara Brunke of Stevensville, Lisa (Al) Lyons of Payson, AZ & Johanna “Cookie” (Frank) Kelly of Tabor, IA; sister-in-law Deloris Brunke; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands-Carl Arent & Warren Langland, two children-Kimberly Arndt in 2007, Brian Arent in 2014, and siblings Maybelle (Robert) Dinges, June (Gerald) Jones, Juanita (William) Wallis, Jean (Ted) Estes & Charles Brunke, and her special friend Craig VanDerveer.
