Joann's Obituary
Joann Louise Pugh, 85, of Buchanan, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Long Acres AFC in Buchanan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, June 27, at 12 PM at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., with Pastor Nathan Babcock officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Garden. Friends may visit with the family one-hour prior at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Buchanan Christian Church, 112 W 3rd St, Buchanan, or Redbud Area Ministries, 708 Red Bud Trail, Buchanan. Joann was born on October 14, 1939, to Albert & Dorothy (Dean) Schmidt. She would earn her diploma from Buchanan High School. In 1977, Joann married James Pugh, III. The two were happily married for 35 years before his passing in 2012.
Joann was a proud member of Buchanan Christian Church. She volunteered her time assisting in the kitchen while summer camps were taking place at Michiana Christian Service Camp. Joann found comfort in birdwatching and enjoying the scenery of beautiful flowers. However, what Joann loved the most was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Joann is survived by her children, Laurie Jacobs of Niles, Amanda (Tim) McKie of Coloma, and James “Jimmy” Pugh IV of Buchanan; stepdaughter, Jackie Pugh; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Joe, Jevonne, Corrin, Ryan, Sam, and Violet; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Albert (Tanya) Schmidt of Coloma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert & Dorothy; daughter, Mary Ellyn Stinchcomb; stepdaughter, Sandra Pugh; and siblings, Dorothy, Mary El-lyn, and John.
