Joe's Obituary

Joe Edward Perry was born on February 8, 1973 to Sarah Louise Perry and Benny Tobar at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He was Sarah’s third son.

Joe grew up in Covert, Michigan where he went to school from Pre-school to the 12th grade. He graduated later in adult education. Joe was a curious youth with an extra special imagination. He once told his mom the cutest story while he was waiting for his Pre-school bus. He said, "Momma there's an ant village with an ant momma waiting with her children on their school bus just like me. The little ant boys and girls are going to school for their first day."

When Joe was in junior high school, he created his version of a couple of Super heroes. His drawings were good enough to publish. He also played the saxophone in the band under Mr. Henning. He played so exquisitely that his mom teased him jokingly of being her own Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong. Joe and his brothers Lemart and Robert had a close bond. His sister Katrina Prewitt never felt left out. The four of them played well together, even playing football and most sports together.

In his adulthood, Joe learned many crafts, but he especially loved to work in construction. He would often say that he learned everything he knew from his grandfather, James Prewitt, his step grandfather. He respected and loved his step father, John Wayne Prewitt. Joe was basically a gentle soul, but we've all fell down once in our lives. The most important thing is to get back up again.

Lately he communicated more with his brother Robert and Robert's fiancée Wanda Sledge, and his sister Katrina Prewitt. Joe last spoke to his mom on December 29, 2022, and she will keep this conversation forever in her heart, truly thankful the elders in the family believed strongly in the family unit. Joe was a man of many talents given to him by Yahweh as he would say continually. He was truly a gift to his mother and family from our Almighty Creator. You shall truly be missed my son, by your brother, your nephew, your cousin, your grandfather and your friends. God grant us peace!

Joe is survived by his mother Sarah Harvey, children; Senario Massey and Joseph Edward Perry, grandchildren; Ja’Carrey Perry, Major Perry, Josiah Perry, Princess Perry, Skyler Perry. Also survived by siblings; Robert Louis Perry, Katrina Lorraine Prewitt and Felicia Tobar-Clark.

Preceded in death by his father, maternal and paternal grandparents, and brother Lemart Perry.
