John's Obituary
John Arthur Creagan, 66, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at his home in Decatur. He was born April 30, 1959, in Paw Paw, MI to Leo and Anne (Cerven) Creagan.
The family will host a celebration of life on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1pm until 4pm, at the VFW Post 6248, 560 N. Phelps St., Decatur. Interment will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be given to Decatur Human Services, 102 S. Phelps St., Decatur, or to the Decatur-Hamilton Fire Department, 420 W. Delaware St., Decatur. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.newellchapel.com.
John was an honest, hardworking man. Growing up, John always enjoyed spending time outside cutting wood with his dad; a life skill he continued to use throughout his life. His early career started with Amtrak and although he went on to have a fulfilling career as a crane operator with LD Dosca Associates, Inc for 30+ years, he always had a story or two about his time with the railroad. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus in Paw Paw and had a soft spot for all his “critters”. John will be missed around town, often seen cruising in his car, listening to music, and singing, especially his rendition of “New York, New York” or “Hello Dollie” at any time it was requested. John loved being sociable, but he especially loved his family and spending time with them.
John will be missed by his children, Megan (Wally Ritter) Brewer, and Shannon Creagan; his grandchildren, Sydnie and Gianna Randall, Sharon, Olivia and Nicole Joy Davis, Aurora, Camille, and Evan Ritter, and Shannon Creagan; his siblings, Kathleen (Duane) Athey, Sharon (the late Charlie) Deloach, Karen Creagan, Thomas (Deborah) Creagan, James Creagan, Fr. Robert Creagan, Dr. Patrick (Lisa) Creagan, and Timothy (Martha) Creagan.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (Wilkins) Creagan, whom he married on November 15, 1990 in Paw Paw; his children, Nicole Randall, and Steven Brewer; his nephew, Steven Athey; his mother-in-law, Joy Jinkins; and his parents.
