Karen's Obituary
Karen Lee Mullard, 83, of Decatur, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 24, 2025, at her home. She was born March 3, 1942, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Lanier (called Ted) Jones Holcombe, Jr. and Betty Lou Kutz then later adopted by Francis O Hysell.
Karen was the owner/operator of Ol’ Lace Beauty Salon in Decatur for 18 years from 1983 until her retirement in 2001. She was very proud of “The Best Little Hair House in Decatur”. Karen loved going camping with her husband Harry, who just preceded her in death on November 11, 2025. Karen also loved being surrounded by family and providing them with delicious meals.
Karen will be missed greatly by her children, Chris (Janice Hunter) Young and Shawnalae (John) Drenth; grandchildren, Lona Young-Stiers, Faith Young, Andrew Hess, Samantha (Jon) Kingzette, and Charles Hess; sisters Tammy Wren, Melonie Mattix, Darlene O’Grady, Patti Thorne, and brother Lanny Holcombe; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were sisters, Beverly and Maxine.
Services will be handled privately. Memorial contributions may be given to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
