Kenneth Ray “Ken” Peters, 83, of Niles, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at Beacon Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 12PM, at Heritage Chapel, 8747 US 31, Berrien Springs, MI 49103. Burial will follow at Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda, MI. Friends and family may visit with Ken’s family on Tuesday, from 11AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Circle, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085 or Pine Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 4368 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, MI 49127. Ken was born on October 10, 1939, to William & Freda (Rechkemer) Peters in Blue Island, IL. He graduated from Berrien Springs High School then continued his educated in Chicago learning about Railroad maintenance. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed the work he did for over 45 years with the railroad system in Elkhart before his retirement. In Ken’s spare time, he enjoyed working on lawn mowers, listening to polka music, traveling throughout the US and Canada and completing his Bible study every Sunday morning. Ken’s most cherished time was spent with his family, especially supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their extracurricular activities.
Ken is survived by his wife Suzanne Peters of 41 years; daughter Shellie (Robert) Lawrick of Baroda; grandsons, Jeremy (Darcie Rogers) Lawrick of Baroda and Andrew (Gina) Lawrick of Stevensville; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Kaydence, Kaytlin, Lia, Samuel, Wesley and Silas Lawrick; bonus great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kaylin Rogers; sister-in-law Karen First; nephew Jon First; and great nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, William & Freda Peters and brother-in-law Harold First.
