Laura's Obituary
Laura C. Upton, 56, of Buchanan, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Hanson Hospice in Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 25th at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Laura was born on November 2, 1967, in Michigan City, IN, to Thomas & Nancy (Black) Becktell. In 1983, Laura met the love of her life, Robert Upton. They began a life together and on May 16, 1998, a wedding was held to unite them into holy matrimony. For many years, Laura was employed at Pine Garth Inn as a housekeeper. She would later relocate and work at Harding’s Supermarket for 13 years as a cashier and office manager. During down time, Laura enjoyed being outside whether it was going camping all over the country with Robert, bird watching or tending to her beautiful flower garden. An avid Cubs fan, Laura loved to watch their games and cheer them on with her family and friends. However, what Laura loved the most in life was spending time and creating memories with her family. Making cookies with her grandchildren and curating the perfect meals for the Holidays brought the most joy to Laura’s heart. She loved being a wife, mother, and nana. Laura will forever be remembered for her gentle nature, loving heart, and vivacious smile.
Laura is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Robert Upton; children, Starla & Nathan Upton; grandchildren, Madison & Zabrina Upton; and brother, Brian Becktell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Nancy; and siblings, Kim Gardner, Tommy Becktell, Matthew “Moe” Becktell & Diane Lawrence.
