Lloyd was born October 6, 1943 in Benton Harbor, MI to Elmer & Ella (Short) Gabriel. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1962. On March 7, 1964 he married Pamela Sloan at Faith Temple in Benton Harbor. Lloyd served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 until 1968. He was in the First Air Calvary and awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. Lloyd worked for Kroger Grocery Store as Produce Manager for 23 years until they left the area. He finished out his career at Whirlpool Corporation, working there for 28 years. He was a member of Napier Parkview Baptist Church. Lloyd had a quick wit and sometimes gruff exterior, but his heart was kind and loving and would help anyone with anything. If he knew you had a need, he wanted to help you meet it. He also enjoyed vacationing and hiking in the Smokey Mountains. In the winter he would leave from work and stop by the John and DeDe Howard skating rink to do some skating before going home. Blowing snow during the winter was also something he liked to do and would also do his neighbors driveways as well as his own. He had a great love for animals and his dog Teddy held a very special place in his heart. Spending time walking him at Riverview Park and the bluff in St. Joseph brought him great joy.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Pamela Gabriel; daughters Michelle (Michael) Streeter and Cynthia Gabriel; granddaughters Megan Bienz and Allyson (Stuart) Wright; great grandchildren Joshua, Jace, Nathaniel, Adalynn, Preston and Mavery, sister Diane Lomonaco, nieces, Stacy (Jeremy) Blauser and Kimberly Fancher and nephews, Mike (Debbie) Gabriel and Kenneth (Molly) Lomonaco. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kathryn Gabriel, sister-in-law Beverly Gabriel, brother Harold Gabriel, and brother-in-law Kenneth Lomonaco.
