Louis's Obituary
Louis M. Collins, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. He was born on October 25, 1936, to Clyde and Susie (McCartney) Collins in Lepanto, Arkansas. On September 5, 1959, he married the former Eleanor Wedde, and they would have been married 65 years in September.
Visitation with Louis’ family will take place on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Starks and Menchinger Chapel (2650 Niles Rd.) from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church (66325 M-152, Dowagiac, MI 49047). He will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery following services. For a more lasting memory, donations in Louis’ name can be made out to either Redeemer Lutheran Church or North Berrien Senior Center. Louis migrated from Louisiana to Benton Harbor, Michigan in the early 1950’s, where he met and married his sweetheart of 66 years. He along with his father and brothers built and renovated many houses. He and
Eleanor raised their family (four daughters and one son) in Benton Harbor. He enjoyed his family, farming, hunting, and fishing. He worked and retired after 30 plus years at Bendix in Stevensville.
Louis is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor Collins; sister, Mary Garland; children, Susan (David) Porter Collins, Rosemary (Paul) Prillwitz, Amie (Larry) Smith, Carin (John) Wilber, Mark (Jane) Collins; eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Susie Collins, brothers Charles Collins Sr. and John Collins.
