Lucia's Obituary
Lucia Maria DeCaneva, 93, of Harbart, passed away peacefully at home with family around her on Wednesday – December 17, 2025. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Lucia was born on January 8 , 1932, in Volosca, Italy, to the late Antonio and Giovanna (Braver) Furlan.
On October 6, 1951 she married Victor DeCaneva; he preceded her in death on March 8, 2021. Lucia’s two sons also preceded her in death – Robert DeCaneva and Bruno DeCaneva.
Lucia is survived by two granddaughters – Anna (Peter) Hamburger of Three Oaks and Marie DeCaneva of Peoria, AZ; two grandchildren – Sofia and Theodore; a niece – Robin Maione and a nephew – Robert Maione; and daughter-in-law – Rita DeCaneva of Three Oaks. She is also preceded by a sister – Edda Maione and a Brother – Roberto Furlan.
Lucia was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary of the Lake Church. She devoted her life to her family and paved the way for her loved ones to follow. She adored her sons, her granddaughters, and most recently her great grandbabies. Lucia will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday – December 27, 11:00am, at St. Mary of the Lake Church – 718 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI, with Father Basker Lopez officiating. Burial follows at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Three Oaks, MI.
