Mable's Obituary
Mable A. Keene, 89, a lifelong resident of Dowagiac, passed away Sunday evening, November 30, 2025, at Beacon Dowagiac Hospital.
She was born on September 11, 1936, in Dowagiac, the daughter of Clarence and Irma (Rose) Myers. On June 18, 1955, Mable married the love of her life, Rolland Keene. Together they ran the 76-gas station in Dowagiac for numerous years. She pumped a lot of gas, washed a lot of windshields, and checked a lot of oil. Later she and Rolland would go on to own an auto repair business located behind their home. Where you saw one, the other was always close by. Mable enjoyed flowers, and birds, and always looked forward to the first hummingbird landing in the Spring. Above all, Mable dedicated her life to her family, both near and far.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Rolland; two children, Debra McLaughlin, and Dale (Rhonda)Keene; four grandchildren, Nate (Trisha) Wiltse, Mindi (Sara) McLaughlin, Buck (Sarah Baggett) Keene, and Jessie Keene; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Ryker, Malli, Briana, Attikus, Rylee, and Letty; brother, John (Sue) Velthouse; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her father, Clarence Myers; mother, Irma Velthouse, and her stepfather who raised her from an early age, Albert Velthouse; brother, William Myers; and sister, Sherry Jackson.
Honoring Mable’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held In the spring when the flowers are in bloom and the birds are chirping.
Arrangements were entrusted to Clark Chapel – Starks Family Funeral Homes, Dowagiac.
