Margaret L. Russell, 71, of Covert, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at home.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI with Pastor Dan Colthorp officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Visitation will take place from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, March 15, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Youth Fair – Dog Department. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Margaret was born on October 22, 1951, in Battle Creek, MI. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1969 and continued her education through Lake Michigan College. On August 7, 1970, she married Kenneth W. Russell in St. Joseph.
Professionally, Margaret served many years at LMC as a custodian and retired in grounds maintenance. Her true passion, was showing and breeding Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Margaret was the superintendent for Dogs of the Berrien County Youth Fair, Past President of Berrien Kennel Club, judged at youth fairs, served as a 4-H Leader and had received her twenty year 4-H pin. She also enjoyed traveling, history and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Julia (Joseph) Duschek of St. Joseph; son, Jonathan (Jennifer) Russell of Covert; granddaughter, Heather Duschek; siblings, Janice (Steven) Smith, Donna (John) Squires, Matthew (Nhien) Short and Susanne (Betsy Daub) Short; mother-in-law, Barbara Russell; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Nick) Auringer and Karen Hartman; brother-in-law, Donald Russell and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie (VanAmburg) Josephsen; father, Sidney Short; husband, Kenneth Russell and step-father, William Josephsen.
