Margarete was born on July 6, 1920 in Buchanan to Joseph & Olga (Herb) Haas. Prior to completing school, she competed in and won the 1935 Miss Bakertown Queen’s Pageant. In July of 1945, at the local VFW, Margarete met her future husband, Ed Rohl, and on September 14, 1946 the two would become married. They were happily married for almost 42 years before the passing of Ed in 1988. Margarete worked for and retired from Electro-Voice as a secretary. After retiring, she wanted to continue to utilize her organizational skills and to lend some of her new spare time to helping others. Her sister-in-law introduced her to The Salvation Army of Niles where she began volunteering up to 30 hours per week. She also would help by counting & recording donations that would come through the mail. Margarete would later earn the title of Corps treasurer, Home League Treasurer, and most importantly she was named the Salvation Army’s “Worthy Woman of the Year” for the northern Indiana and the west Michigan area, a title she was honored to hold. However, what made her the happiest was spending time with her family. She made sure to have yearly family reunions, attend events involving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and always did what she could to bring the family together. She was an incredible woman, with a heart of gold who was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. Margarete will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Margarete is survived by her two daughters; Bobby Rohl & Edna Piechocki; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Olga; husband, Ed; children, Maurice “Corky” (Josephine) Rohl & Arthur (Linda) Rohl; and siblings, Herb Haas, Walter Haas & Lorraine Reed.
