Marian was born August 30, 1936 in Kalamazoo to Paul & Evelyn (Frenthway) Pitman. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University. On December 14, 1963 she married Richard “Dick” Hagenauer in Kalamazoo. Marian was a teacher, first teaching at Mound Park Elementary School in Warren, Michigan and then at Lincoln Elementary School in St. Joseph, until she started her family. Marian was a member of Stevensville United Methodist Church. She volunteered at Memorial Hospital in St. Joseph as well as for Civic Benefit and Lakeshore Public Schools. Marian and Dick enjoyed the fellowship of their dinner group. Marian was able, with the help of her devoted, long-time friends, to continue to enjoy fellowship with her dinner group after Dick’s passing in 2014. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining family & friends whenever she could, along with shopping for a deal and making jewelry. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family and many friends.
Marian is survived by her children-David (Heather) Hagenauer of DeWitt, MI, Catherine Cremin of Holland, MI, Lisa (Scott) Ward of Caledonia, MI; her “adopted” daughter Nancy (Jamie) Poelker; her grandchildren who knew her as “Nonee”-Hannah (Tyler) Bottorff, Sarah Cremin, Lilli, Brynn & John Ward; her sister Geraldine DeHaan of Panora, IA; and nieces & nephews-Michael DeHaan, Deb DeHaan, Mark (Joann) DeHaan, Sally (Bill) Mele & Richard Cluever. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, an infant brother, John Pitman, and a brother-in-law Robert DeHaan.
