Marlin's Obituary

Marlin R. Turbett, 73, of Buchanan, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville.

A celebration of life service will be held at noon on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Buchanan Christian Church, 112 W. 3rd St., Buchanan, MI. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 10 am-noon also at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in South Lyon Cemetery, South Lyon, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Michigan Youth for Christ, PO Box 2678, Grand Rapids, MI 49501, or Focus on the Family, 8605 Explorer Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920. Marlin was born on November 27, 1950, to Norman and Marcella (Vandeventer) Turbett in Vincennes, IN. He graduated from Northville High School, class of 1968. He earned his bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from GMI (General Motors Institute) in 1973 and earned his master's in Engineering, graduating in 1989.

Professionally, Marlin dedicated nearly forty years as an Automotive Engineer for General Motors Company, retiring in 2008. It was in 2007 that Marlin received the annual “Boss” Kettering Award, one of GM’s most prestigious engineering achievements serving as the highest internal recognition for technical innovation.

On May 30, 1981, he married Melody (Lane), and from this union came two children, Ashleigh and Troy. Melody passed away on August 25, 2008. On June 26, 2011, Marlin married Cynthia Blaine. Marlin enjoyed participating in Skeet Leagues, Fly fishing, and watching football. He was an active member at Buchanan Christian Church and was passionate about personal growth, spiritual growth, and sharing that with others. Among teaching classes through the church, Marlin and Cindy also operated the Grief Share Support Group.

Marlin is survived by his wife, Cynthia Blaine; daughter, Ashleigh (Christopher) Harms; son, Troy Turbett; step-children, Chris (Amber) Blaine, Scott (Cindie) Blaine, Jennifer (Chris) Perez; eight step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; siblings, Gary (Debra) Turbett, Cheryl (Mike) Wadsworth, many nieces and nephews, and beloved dog, Muffin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Marcella Turbett, and his first wife, Melody Turbett.
