Martha's Obituary

Martha Jane Dubuisson, 92 of South Haven, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024. Martha was born November 18, 1931, in Hopkins, Michigan to Jesse and Esther Runkel. She was united in marriage to Alfred D. Dubuisson Jr. on April 14, 1956.

Martha is survived by her children; Lisa (Steven) Follman, Laura (Brian deBest) Hayward, Alfred (Wendy) Dubuisson, Paul (Elizabeth) Dubuisson, Grandchildren; Amanda (Joey) Schweighardt, Ehrland (Molly) Bosworth, Alicia (Jason) Pollard, Molly Blaney, Rachel Dubuisson, Zoey Dubuisson, Samuel (Lydia) Dubuisson. Also survived by great grandchildren; Jackson, Alex, Maddie, Quint, Finley and Isla.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Esther Runkel, husband Alfred D. Dubuisson and sisters; Eva Gooding and Joyce Alderink.

Martha graduated with her RN Degree from Butterworth School of Nursing. She then moved to South Haven with 3 nursing school friends, including her lifelong friend Muriel (Mert) Smart. It was while staying at the Aldo Hotel in South Haven, that she met the love of her life Alfred Dubuisson Jr. They married, raised 4 children and spent the next 66 years together until he passed away in 2022. Once the children were born, family became Martha’s top priority including teaching them all to love Jesus. She had a fear of water, but made sure her children all knew how to swim and took them to the beach regularly. The family enjoyed many vacations together. Martha was giving, spirited and feisty. You may have seen her dressed as a clown in a South Haven parade. In her spare time, she loved knitting, playing bridge, watching the birds and creating pastel pictures. Her giving nature and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Visitation for Martha will be held Monday, March 4, 2024 from 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1635 76th St., South Haven, Michigan, 49090. Pastor Jerry Koller will officiate. Martha will be laid to rest beside her husband Alfred at Lakeview Cemetery.
