Patrice's Obituary

Patrice Schroeder was born June 11, 1954 to Ralph and Marie Dahn in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Patrice (or Trice, as we called her) had three older sisters, Suzanne, Jeanette, Denise, and a younger brother, Mark.
Trice’s high energy and enthusiasm for life led her to follow in the footsteps of her sisters as a cheerleader for St. John’s Irish, and later for Lake Michigan Catholic Lakers. In Trice’s later years, we could always get a smile and laughter by bringing up one of her “side-line” cheers.
Trice met her lifetime love, David Schroeder, back in Junior High. They eventually married a few years after high school. Trice worked various jobs, including Skidmore, Signal Travel and Jan’s Closet. Her husband was busy growing the family car business into a large dealership, Schroeder Motor Mall.
Trice and Dave adopted two loving children as infants, Scott first, then a few years later, Bradley. Sadly, Dave died unexpectedly in August, 1995. Just a month earlier, her father had also passed away. The deaths of both these strong men in her life left her broken hearted.
Living on a beach at Wild Dunes, she spent many days with her kids enjoying the sun, sand, and water. She developed a hobby of collecting beach glass, which helped fill her soul and many glass jars! After moving to Edgewater, her new hobby was collecting rocks at Jean Klock. Her good friend Al, coined the phrase “Patrice Rocks”, and had his sisters make her a pillow, quilt and rock bag with “Patrice Rocks” as the logo!
Early onset dementia had taken away many of her abilities, but friends and family worked together to help make her life comfortable and happy. Lifetime friends, including Pam, visited and spent time with her often. Her sister Jeanette and brother-in-law Tom, drove into town almost daily to offer companionship and support. Her son Bradley stayed home with her for many years, cooking, providing medication and attention to her needs, prior to her move to Woodland Terrace.
Trice is survived by her sons, Scott Schroeder of Battle Creek, and Bradley Schroeder, South Bend. Sisters, Suzanne (Tex) Burrows, Temple, TX, Jeanette (Tom) Flagel, Berrien Springs, brother, Mark (Karen) Dahn, St. Joseph, MI, and many loving Nieces and Nephews. Trice was preceded in death by her husband, David, her sister Denise Griffith, brother- in -law , Craig Griffith, and mother and father, Ralph and Marie Dahn.
We would like to thank the team at Woodland Terrace for providing her with comfort and care. In lieu of flowers, family and friends can offer donations to Birthright in St. Joseph or to St. Johns and Bernard Parish. A Celebration of Life will be planned for this summer for family and friends. Those wishing to share a memory of Patrice online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com
