Paul's Obituary

Paul Gerhardt Freudenburg, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away on January 25th, 2022, at Lakeland Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 613 Court St., St. Joseph, with Pastor Michael J. Roth officiating. Friends may visit with the family Sunday, January 30 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Paul was born on June 6, 1934 in Madison, Nebraska to the late Oscar and Frieda Freudenburg. He graduated from Dowagiac High School, and later Western Michigan University where his obtained his B.S. degree in Psychology. He married Sally Ann Durren on August 9, 1966 in Saugatuck, MI.

He had many accomplishments including, chairing 1973-74 Western Amateur Championship at Point O’ Woods Country Club. He was also a strong supporter of local programs including; Director of Junior Achievement, Rotarian, Vice President of People Savings, Principal/coach at Eman School and the area’s first home inspector, The Sherlock of Homes. He and his wife Sally also opened and owned The Town Crier in St. Joseph. Second only to his faith in God was his love of “Go Blue.”

Paul is survived by his children, Gary Grall of Benton Harbor, David Grall of Saint Joseph, and Sarah (Steve) Ringer of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Jessica, Austin (Allie), Hannah, Charlie, Arielle, and Nathaniel; niece, Jill (Tim) Jersey; and grandnephew, Paul (Samantha); siblings, Marc Freudenburg, Harriet Peer and Geraldine Blanchard. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sally and 8 siblings.
