Peter Joseph Siewert, age 64, of Dowagiac, Michigan, was admitted to the hospital February 24, due to anemia and kidney failure. He was soon diagnosed with multiple myelomas and came home March 5. He was supported by family and friends until he died at home on March 14, 2026.
Peter was born on February 8, 1962, at Bay City, Michigan, to Eva Lorraine (DePas) Siewert and Everett Louis Siewert. Peter taught English as a missionary in Beijing, China; there he met and married his first wife, Christine Yu.
Peter loved reading books, animals, dogs, working on computers, walking, swimming, bicycling and, especially in his later years, birdwatching.
Peter is survived by daughter Betty Yu Siewert; son Joshua Siewert; wife, Eunice Tendan Banes Siewert; stepchildren Jenice and Jeric (Stephanie) Banes; sister, Suzi Woods and brother-in-law, Mike Woods. He is also survived by nephews, Michael (Larae) and Scott (Stacy) Woods; nieces, Angel (Tony) Stout and Dana (Dan) Brady; many cousins, three great nephews and two great nieces.
Peter was proceeded in death by his brother, Daniel Brooks Siewert and parents, Eva and Everett Siewert.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 26, at 5:00 PM at Village SDA Church, 635 Saint Joseph Avenue, Berrien Springs, Michigan, 49103.
