Randy's Obituary

Randy Reimers, age 60, joined Jesus in His Heavenly home on Friday, February 9th, 2024 after his hard-fought battle with stage 4 lung cancer. He passed away in Naples, Florida surrounded by his family and close friends.

Randy was born to Herb and Curly Reimers on April 18, 1963. He attended Grace Lutheran School and Michigan Lutheran High School, class of 1981. Randy then attended Wisconsin Lutheran College graduating in 1987. During college, Randy traveled the world and made countless memories as a part of Up With People. Upon graduation, Randy began his 30-year career in the banking industry with Inter City Bank. Throughout his career, he worked for Michigan National Bank, Chemical Bank, and retired from Fifth Third Bank in 2018 as the community president. It was at Inter City Bank where he met the love of his life, Monika (Reinhardt) Reimers. They got married on April 27, 1991, and have three wonderful children Daniel, David, and Elizabeth. Randy and Monika raised their family in St. Joseph, Michigan while summering in Sister Lakes. They loved the lake so much that in 2014 the lake became their permanent home. It was here Randy enjoyed all things “Lake Life” especially water skiing. He shared this hobby, teaching over 100 people to ski. Making the most out of retirement, Randy and Monika have spent the last three winters in Naples, Florida enjoying the “Snowbird Life.”

Randy was an avid volunteer within the community and his church. He was the chairman of the Miss St. Joseph Pageant, Volunteer of the Year for the Blossomtime Festival, member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Exchange Club, and served on the St. Joseph Public School Board. After retirement, Randy enjoyed substitute teaching in St. Joseph Public Schools and being the assistant cheer coach with his daughter at Upton Middle School. Randy was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on many boards in addition to serving as the president of the congregation. He attended church every Sunday growing in his faith which gave him the strength and peace to continue living his life even when fighting cancer. His faith gave him the confidence to say “I win either way. I either get to stay on earth and continue living life to the fullest, or I get to go to Heaven.”

Outside of being a terrific husband and an amazing father, Randy would say his greatest accomplishment is the impact he’s had on people’s lives. His family is reassured of this based on the outpouring of support from members of the community.

Randy is survived by his wife Monika; children, Daniel, David (Sarah), and Elizabeth; sister, Sue (Tom) Kehr and beloved cousin, Cheryl (Harold) Lear. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Curly Reimers as well as his sister, Sandy Reimers.

The visitation will be held at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph MI. on Friday, February 16th, 2024 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Eternal Service will take place at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 East Glenlord Road, St. Joseph on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 am. Randy loved being surrounded by colors as bright as his personality. In order to celebrate, the family asks you to wear bright colors at the visitation and funeral; Hawaiian shirts are encouraged. Donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
