Richard's Obituary

Richard Allen Hammond, 74, of Grand Junction, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born on August 18, 1948 in Watervliet to Harold and Dorothy Hammond. United in marriage to the late Linda Pion on February 18, 1972.

Richard is survived by children; Dorothy Hammond and Scott Burgoyne(Tammy) along with several others who knew him as dad and grandchildren; Cody VanAlstine, Joplin and Sirius Burgoyne. Also survived by sister Vicky (John) Hudson and brother Tim(Joan) Hammond, Stanley(Dawn)Scherer. He had many nieces and nephews that he held close to his heart.

Preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Linda Hammond, parents Harold and Dorothy Hammond and Brothers; Bob Hammond, Dennis Hammond and David Hammond and “Jimmy” James Parks.

Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He spent a good majority of his life in construction and over the road adventures in long haul driving and team driving with Linda for at least a year, until his retirement in 2013. Richard was Commander of American Legion Post 49 in South Haven Michigan. Richard also loved hunting turtles, deer and fishing for Bluegill and perch. He spent many years sharing a good cup of coffee at Chucks with his people and riding his Harley. In 2015 Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was an awesome husband, father and grandfather, brother, and son. He loved his family and made sure to be there for everything he could. He was beyond loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation for Richard will be Friday, February 3, 2023, at Journey Family Church, 514 W. Van Buren St., Gobles, Michigan, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Josh Odell will officiate. Please consider a donation to Bangor Baptist Church for the Annual the Biker Sunday Event which Richard loved to take part in every year. Richard will take his last and final ride at Biker Sunday 8/20/2023 with his best friend Charles Hurn, fellow riders, family and friends to honor his wishes in the name of Jesus.
