Richard J. “Dick” Mann, 83, of Buchanan, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Corewell Health, Lakeland Niles, surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan with full military honors rendered by the Buchanan American Legion and the United States Air Force. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 11 am – 1 pm also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Youth Fair. Dick was born on November 3, 1939, to Jerry and Ida (Ahola) Mann in Niles. He graduated from Buchanan High School, class of 1957. Dick continued his education through South Bend College of Commerce and Lake Michigan College. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. On January 16, 1960, he married Jodean R. Reinholt in Buchanan.

Professionally, Dick served 54 years with the Berrien County Sherriff’s Department, 52 years with the Buchanan Police Department, Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Buchanan and presently acted as the Reserve Commander of the Buchanan Police Department. He was also very involved in the Berrien County Youth Fair, contributing 55 years of service, five years with Lest We Forget and was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church, Buchanan.

Dick loved to travel and had a great passion and appreciation for military history, especially World War II. He was very active and had a true benevolent manner, always willing to give a helping hand. Dick also enjoyed photography and could always be found with a camera while traveling or at family gatherings.

Dick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jodean Mann; daughter, Barbara Mann; son, Michael Mann; brother-in-law, Keith (Patricia) Reinholt and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Ida Mann; sister, Janet (John) Mackie and sister-in-law, Patricia (Ben) Benites.
