Richard's Obituary

Richard Rex Nower, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2023. He was born on January 30, 1936, to Lester and Evelyn (Peters) Nower in Fawn River Township, Michigan.

Visitation with Rex’s family will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 10:00 AM with funeral mass starting at 11:00 am at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church (555 E. Delaware Ave Benton Harbor, Michigan 49022) with a luncheon to follow.

Rex graduated from St. Johns High School. He served in the Army stationed in Germany, then worked as an electrician for Stouffer Electric for 40 years. Rex was a loving husband and exemplary father and grandfather. He was an avid basketball player. He had fond memories as an outdoorsman at his second home in the Platte River Valley in Wyoming. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and the mountains. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Scott Nower; and his sisters, Maxine Zolen and Kay Meilke.

Rex is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Diane (Dumdie) Nower; sisters, Gratia Soergel of South Haven MI, Mary Bailey of South Haven MI, Francis Gomez of Berlin, NM, and Terry Franklin of South Haven, MI; brother, Charlie Nower of St. Joseph, MI; children; Sue (Mike) Miller, of Bridgman, MI, David (Jill) Nower of Lansing MI; grandchildren; Ashley (Josh) Schlump of Maple City MI, Heather (Tom) Miller-Edwardson of Grand Rapids, MI, Shannon (Nick) Woerdehoff of Bridgman, MI, and Riley Nower of Lansing, MI; numerous nieces and nephews; and two great granddaughters.
