Robert C. “Bob” Short, Sr., 88, of Dowagiac, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Cassopolis V.F.W. Post 10704, 131 S. Broadway, St. from 2:00PM until 4:00PM. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to the Cassopolis V.F.W. Post 10704, the Seney Wild Life Refuge, or the Whitefish Pointe Light Station. Bob was born July 23, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Charles and Elizabeth (Elek) Short. He graduated from Dowagiac High School, class of 1953. After high school, Robert joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1951 to 1954. On April 4, 1959, he married the love of his life, Joyce Deuel. Bob enjoyed reading books and had a passion for history which led him to becoming a History and Social Studies teacher at the Dowagiac Middle School for 20 years before his retirement. Bob had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed the wildlife and going fishing. Most of all, he loved his family and he will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Short; children, Robert (Charlene) Short, Jr. and Shari (David) Pond; grandchildren, Joshua Bissenden, Zachary (Jessica) Bissenden, Matthew (Amanda) Short, Rebecca (Paul) Nitka, Scott (Chasity) Pond and Shawn (Jen) Pond; and great-grandchildren, Charlie, Tayib, Hannah, Ayden, Andrue, Marcus, Kaleb, Kelin, Blake and Harper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Short.
