Ron's Obituary

Ronald Earl Hackney, 71, of Stevensville, passed away, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife & daughter.

A Celebration of Life Eternal will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, with Rev. Robert Confer officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 1 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Ron was born March 11, 1950 in Norfolk, Virginia to Raymond Howard & Mary Ruth (Sigmon) Hackney. He graduated from John Yeates High School in Suffolk, VA, Class of 1968. On August 25, 1973 Ron married the former Shirley Ann Mauldin in Norfolk, VA. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana and his Masters Degree in 1979 from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Ron & Shirley moved to Southwest Michigan in 1979 when Ron gained employment with Heath/Zenith, where he worked until they closed. He later gained employment with PPCG, and most recently at REGO Consulting, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, retiring as Senior Project Consultant.

Ron was a member of the First Church of God in St. Joseph, the Christian Motorcyclists Association and its subchapter Prayer Re-Riders. Ron enjoyed riding his Harley during the summer months and being outdoors to enjoy the beauty of nature and the wildlife around his home. Earlier in life, after earning his pilots license, Ron enjoyed flying, scuba diving & sailing. Ron spent many hours with his brother Don tracing the family genealogy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ron is survived by his wife Shirley; his daughter Elizabeth Hackney of St. Joseph; two brothers-Rev. Craig (Rosie) Hackney of Houston, TX, Rev. Don (Evon) Hackney of Fayetteville, TN; his sister-in-law Judy Strovink of Hampton, VA; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond & Ruth Hackney.
