Ronald's Obituary

Ronald “Ron” Pratt, 71, passed away, at home surrounded by family on April 13, 2023, after a brief battle with lung cancer. Ron was born in Gary, Indiana, to Edwin and Mildred Pratt on December 23, 1951. He grew up in Chesterton, Indiana and graduated from Chesterton High School, Class of 1969. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Tammy (Monroe), son Zachary (Rosana) of Arlington, TX, daughter Hannah (John) Smart of Vine Grove, KY, Grandchildren Elijah and Ava Pratt, Christian and Dominik Smart, brother Mark (Cathie)of Oak Ridge, TN and a sister Lori (John) Rosetti, Chesterton, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and one uncle (Don Pratt).

Ron was an avid animal lover. From an early age, he would find injured animals, bring them home to nurse them back to good health. During summer jobs at the Dunes State Park, he added raccoons, skunks, snakes, a fox, a rooster, a chicken hawk and a ferret as pets. Ron always had a dog by his side and the last 12 years his Doberman, Kado, has been his companion.

His love of music led him to hitchhike across the country in his youth attending concerts and taught himself to play the flute. Always extremely talented, he created many artistic projects like a waterfall table made of wax. His craftsmanship led him to become a self-taught Tile Artisan. He began his tile business, Pioneer Flooring, in Texas. He became well known for his tile designs in many restaurants and commercial buildings. He relocated his business to New Buffalo, MI, where his talent in designing and craftmanship were praised by many of his Grand Beach clients.

Ron lived life to the fullest and never took no for an answer. He loved riding his motorcycle and driving and working on his Corvette. Most of all Ron was proud of his children and beautiful grandchildren. Ron loved spending time with his grandchildren, he loved having cookie parties with them and telling them stories.

Ron was always rather a rebel, with the biggest heart. He has a wonderful family who will miss him dearly

In lieu of flowers, his family requests you do a kind deed for someone, or give someone you've lost touch with a call, before it's too late to do so. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-,menchinger.com.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Ron on Sunday, May 7th at the VFW in Porter, Indiana from 2-5pm. If you have a picture of a time/memory spent with Ron, please bring it for us all to enjoy. Arrangements are being entrusted to Heritage Chapel & Cremation Services, 8747 US 31, Berrien Springs, MI. 269-471-
