Rosalie's Obituary

Rosalie Capizzo, 94, born and raised in Chicago, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday. A woman of deep faith, strength, and devotion, Rosalie’s life was defined by her love of family, her dedication to education, and her unwavering Catholic faith.

Rosalie attended Mundelein College and completed her Bachelor’s degree at Western Michigan University. She devoted 20 years of her life to shaping young minds as a beloved kindergarten teacher with Coloma Schools. Her patience, warmth, and enthusiasm left a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues.

Rosalie embraced life with curiosity and joy. She was an avid reader who was always eager to learn and take on new challenges. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, practicing yoga, wintering in Florida, and treasured her time spent with friends. A devoted fan of Notre Dame Football, she rarely missed cheering on her team.

Most important to Rosalie was her family. She drew immense joy from gatherings, especially at the lake, where she proudly celebrated her Italian heritage and traditions. It was her heartfelt hope that these cherished traditions would continue for generations to come.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Vito Capizzo.

She is lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Ferol (Doug) Allen, Mary Donna Capizzo, Vicki (Mark) Matthews and Nancie (Paul) Oetter; grandchildren, Michael (Michele) Matthews, Tommy (Catherine) Matthews, Liz Allen, Kathryn (Chris) Ory, Michael (Sarah) Allen, Jenn Oetter, and Tess Oetter; grandniece Taylor Duncan; great-grandchildren, Mia and Ben Ory, Madeline and Henry Matthews: nieces and nephews, Kristi Duncan, Philip, Joey (Dave Rench), and Michael (Danielle) McDonald. Rosalie’s legacy of love, faith, tradition, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew her.
