Marie's Obituary
Rose "Marie" Hemenway, 93, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at her home in Decatur. She was born July 8, 1932, in Dowagiac, Mi to Joseph and Luella (Probst) Szymonski.
Marie farmed by her husband's side until they retired. She enjoyed the garden and preserving all that the garden produced. As winter came, she began holiday baking for family, neighbors and friends. Marie also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and crafting with her daughter, Brenda. She will always be remembered as a hardworking, generous and kindhearted lady.
Marie will be missed by her children, Jean(Charlie) Cady, and Brenda (Ed) Hollenbeck; her daughter-in-law Sue Hemenway; her grandchildren, Dan(Angie) Hemenway, Doug (Erin) Hemenway, Erin (Matt) Riggs, Marcie (Patrick) Carlsen, Scott Cady, Matt (Randi) Cady, Brian (Candice) Cady, Devin (Heather) Hollenbeck and Heather (Mark) VanDusen; 17 great grandchildren; and her sisters, Doris (Jim) Bischoff, and Nancy Schaus.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Bradley Hemenway (2013), whom she married on March 10, 1951; her son, Jay Bradley Hemenway, Jr.; her great granddaughter, Katie; her siblings, Thelma (Ben) Waldschmidt, Mary (Lyle) High, Steve (Peggy) Szymonski, Rosella (Clayton) Newman, John (Anita) Szymonski, Margaret Dooley and Walter "Floyd" Szymonski; and her parents.
A private urn burial will be held at a later date at Hamilton Township Cemetery, Decatur. Memorial contributions can be given to Decatur Human Services, 102 S. Phelps St., Decatur, Ml 49045.
