Ruth was born April 21, 1931 in Chesnee, SC to Alexander and Mary ”Bessy” (McKinney)
Mahaffey. She attended Chesnee High School through the tenth grade, later completing her
high school degree in 1979 at Benton Harbor High School. On July 10, 1949, she married
Harold McGee in South Carolina. Ruth and Harold moved to Michigan a few years later,
where Ruth worked at various manufacturing companies for many years before her
retirement.

A woman of faith, Ruth spent much of her time getting to know Jesus Christ, her lord and
savior through readings of the Bible. Ruth was a talented seamstress and created clothes,
costumes, quilts, and dresses. Along with her love for sewing, Ruth enjoyed playing the
guitar, singing, and watching the Olympics; her favorite sports being Figure Skating and
Gymnastics. Ruth was an avid doll collector and many of her dolls reflected her love of
classic films and television shows, including dolls like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and
Shirley Temple. Ruth was dedicated to her family. She especially loved her role as
Grandma and Great-Grandma, rarely missing a performance, recital, or graduation.

Ruth is survived by her children, Steven McGee and Susan Dean; her grandchildren,
Sarah (Benjamin) Sulka, Rachel (Paul) Shaia, and Stephen (Taylor) Dean; and her great
grandchildren, Emma and Aiden Damouth, Elliana Sulka, and Jordan, Adam, and
Cameron Shaia.

McGee and Marshall McGee; her grandson, Daniel (Shanna) Damouth; seven siblings; and
her parents.
