Ruth's Obituary
Ruth Ann Semones, 65, of St. Joseph, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23,
2026 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan.
Ruth was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 26, 1960 to the late Paul & Heidi (Schuwey)
Semones. Ruth spent her childhood in Jeffersonville, Indiana where she graduated from
Jeffersonville High School in 1979. From her youngest days and throughout her life, Ruth found beauty and contentment outdoors surrounded by Mother Nature's creation. In her early 20s, Ruth moved to Michigan where she has since resided. She was an artist, free spirit, and adventurer always choosing to walk the path of a true individualist. She was an inspiration for many, making an impact on all who knew her. Ruth made her living as a landscape architect and founded the 'Root Seller', where many customers purchased plants and relied on her extensive knowledge and experience especially with native horticulture. She will be greatly missed by her family and many dear friends.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Lilly Byrdak (Nick Mercer); adopted daughters Alesia Gruenwald & Andrea (Chris) Livesay; a brother, Tony (Julie) Semones, and 4 sisters, Maria (Don) Engle, Helen (Steve) Epstein, Therese (Matt) Hladney, and Maggie (Dana) Troutman; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Alan Shepard; and twin nieces, Ann & Grace Semones
There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
