Ryan's Obituary

Ryan T. Hudson died on May 30, 2022, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI, after a long illness. He was 43.

Ryan was born on May 31, 1978, at Memorial Hospital, (Lakeland), in St Joseph, MI, to Irene Hudson (Urban) and Terry Hudson. Ryan spent his childhood in Stevensville, graduating from Lakeshore High School in 1997. He was proud to be a Lancer and a varsity athlete who lettered in both football and track. He went on to attend Western Michigan University, where he joined ROTC and worked for the Broncos football program, earning his Bachelors Degree in Business in 2001. From 2004-2012, Ryan served in the United States Navy as an Information Systems Technician on the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), and at NATO (SHAPE), Belgium. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Ryan continued his IT career at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, IN. where he remained for the past nine years.

Ryan met his wife, Jessica, in 2004 in Kalamazoo, MI, through mutual friends, and they were married in 2006, in Chicago, IL. Ryan and Jessica welcomed their son, David, in 2007 in Hampton, VA, and their daughter, Claire, in 2010 in Mons, Belgium. Those who knew Ryan will remember him for his passion for sports, whether it was cheering at his kid's football, baseball and soccer games or rooting for the Spartans, Irish, Bears, or Cubs. He will especially be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and the love he had for the people in his life, from his family and friends, to colleagues, to his military brothers and sisters. He loved get-togethers, and tailgates, and in more recent years developed a love for cooking, making his home-cooked masterpieces for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to his wife and children, Ryan is survived by his mother, Irene Hudson; father, Terry (Elizabeth) Hudson; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Cynthia Smith, siblings, Camille (Andrew) Lukasewski, Bret (Corrine) Zimmerman, Wade (Caroline) Zimmerman, and Lindsay (Joshua) Hunsberger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Matthew (Caryn) Smith, and Jennifer (Brian) Hopkins, nieces and nephews, Jaxson Lukasewski, Alexandria Zimmerman, Wesley Zimmerman, Ally Hunsberger, Tristan Hunsberger, Isabella Hopkins, Shaelyn Hopkins, and Briar Smith; Aunts and Uncles, Renate (Glenn) Wilson, Karen (Tom) White, Carol (Jim) Anderson, Dale (Joyce) Zimmerman and Frances Taitt; cousins, Adam (Kathleen) Wilson, Evan Wilson, Aaron Wilson, Erik Wilson, Amanda Schoudt, Vanessa Schoudt, MiKayla White, Stacie (David) Anderson, Sheila (Mark) Aukerman and Derek (Cheri) Zimmerman, and many members of the Hudson family.

Ryan was preceded in death by his stepfather, Glen Zimmerman, and his grandparents, Heinz and Hildegard Urban.

A celebration of Ryan's life will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, MI 49085, with Military Rites conducted by the North Berrien Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012 11:00 A.M.
