Sally's Obituary

Sally Sue Clevenger, 83, formerly from Berrien Springs, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Buchanan Meadows. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, November, 29 at 12 PM at Heritage Chapel, 8747 US 31, Berrien Springs, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice (Caring Circle) or to an organization of your choice. Sally was born on February 8, 1939, in Niles, to Harold & Edna Lucille (Sheperd) Vandenburg. She graduated from Niles High School in 1957. On June 7, 1959, Sally married the love of her life, John A. Clevenger III. The two spent nearly 41 years together before John’s passing in 2000. and Many summers they would spend vacationing at a house build by Sally’s father on Jehnsen Lake near Rodney, MI. Sally began working at the local bank in Berrien Springs and retired after being in the banking business for 31 years. Following retirement, Sally and her significant other, Richard “Dick” Califf, would spend winters at their home in Florida where Sally learned to golf. She enjoyed summers with family and friends in northern Michigan outdoors. She was a proud member of the Berrien Springs American Legion Auxiliary.
Sally is survived by her children, John (Dawn) Clevenger, IV of Johannesburg, MI, Bruce (Suzanne) Clevenger of Berrien Springs and Karen (John) Marysz of Bluffton, SC; grandchildren, Bruce (Melissa) Clevenger, Nicholas (Martina) Arend, John Clevenger V, Adam Bugno, Corey (Greg) Cejka, Lauren (Chad) Keeton and Morgan (Joe) Hoadly; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley (John) Burge of Berrien Springs, Donald Vandenburg of Niles, and Judy (John) Ankrapp of Las Vegas; and significant other, Dick Califf. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, David Vandenburg; and son-in-law, Mark Bugno.
