Sepehr's Obituary
Sepehr studied at Oakland University and at the University of Michigan, where he earned his Industrial Engineering degree. He started his career at General Electric in Schenectady, NY (where he met Kelly) and took pride in his work in environment, health and safety across multiple roles in the power generation industry, which provided him with opportunities to see the world. His and Kelly's career moves brought them from New York to Texas, where Max was born, and then later back to Michigan.
He will be remembered most for cultivating deep relationships, his strong hugs, his compassion and steadfast dedication to his friends, family and fatherhood. Sepehr was sharp-minded and brought this as well as his sense of humor to every aspect of his life. He was a brilliant problem solver and often invited intense debates.
He was passionate about cars and enjoyed working on his Corvette and Mustang, and always sought opportunities for ‘car talk’. Sepehr loved to cook and was especially talented in Iranian cuisine, loved the outdoors, mountain biking, camping and hiking and found peace in nature.
From an early age, he demonstrated a connection to art and music and practiced both, including guitar, tuba and classic piano. Post graduation, Sepehr cultivated a love for Michigan football and basketball, and rooted for the Wolverines. Sepehr was active in his son Maxwell’s sports and so enjoyed watching him from the sidelines.
Sepehr will be dearly missed by his wife of 12 years, Kelly (Griffith) Mowlavi, whom he married on September 2, 2012 in Lake Placid, NY; his beloved son, Maxwell; his loving parents; his cherished brother, Saeed (Allison) Mowlavi; his nieces, Maya and Ava; his nephew, Noah; his aunt, Maryam (Ahmad) Shokri; his cousins, Kevin (Alyssa) Shokri and Cameron Shokri; his in laws, Kim (Nan) Griffith; his sister-in-law, Sarah (Chris) Cartmill and many other extended family members and friends who loved him.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 12pm-2pm at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. There will be a celebration of life at 2 pm, followed by a 3:30 reception at the Silver Harbor Brewing Company where all are welcome.
