Sharon's Obituary

Sharon Lee (Mitan) Shook passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Over the years, she suffered from severe back pain and had many strokes. She recently had surgery to address a new health issue, but she never fully recovered.
Sharon was born on May 13, 1942, to Edward and Helen (Perun) Mitan. She was raised in the Detroit area with her younger siblings, Lynette and Wayne. After graduating from Dominican High School, Sharon went on to graduate from the University of Detroit Mercy. After graduating from college, she was an elementary school teacher in the Warren Fitzgerald school district.
A friend set up Sharon on a blind date, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Robert Edward Shook. They were married on April 24, 1965, and they remained happily married until Robert’s passing on December 24, 2019. They had one daughter, Gretchen, on June 22, 1973.
Sharon stopped teaching to focus on raising Gretchen, but she had many different jobs while Gretchen was growing up. One of those ventures included renting and flipping house with her business partner, Arleen (Moshier) Zannoth.
Sharon loved reading, cooking, traveling, hosting dinner parties and spending time with her treasured family and friends. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds. She will be extremely missed by many.
Loving mother of Gretchen (Shook) Wessendorf. Dear Nana of grandchildren Heleana, Robert and Andrew and great-grandson, Christopher. Dear sister of Lynnette and Wayne (Patricia) Mitan. Loving, kind and generous aunt to many nieces, nephews and more and beloved friend to many.
