Sheila's Obituary

Sheila Ann Curtis, age 70, of Benton Harbor, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at her home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI, 49085, with Pastor Dani Veenstra officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Spring Run Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sheila’s name may be directed to the National Scleroderma Foundation.

Sheila was born on October 3, 1954 to Cecil and Addie (Powell) Bunch in Benton Harbor. Sheila worked as a bank teller and enjoyed her volunteer work with the Lakeland Health Foundation. She was a longtime member of Zion St. Joe UCC, taking part in many events; with the Swiss Steak Dinners being near and dear to her heart as cooking and baking for family, friends and anyone needing a meal brought her great joy.

Sheila enjoyed spending the warm summer days driving around town and being by the lake. She always made sure to stop by the fruit stands and, of course, the ice cream shops also. Sheila also loved traveling, visiting her son in Kalamazoo, brother in Florida, but nothing more than her daughter and family in Alaska. She looked forward to her annual Alaska adventure, but not more than the time she’d get to spend with her beloved grandson.

Sheila leaves to cherish her loving memory: children, Brent Curtis and Nicole (Steve) Ellis; grandson, Matthew Ellis; brother, Gary (Cheryl) Bunch; niece and caregiver, Regina Dunaway; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Sandra Kay Johnson; and former mother-in-law, Joyce Curtis-Miller.
