Susan's Obituary

Susan L. Jervis-Pierce shuffled off this mortal coil on May 16, 2025, to go play bridge and drink with her parents.

Susan was born on May 30, 1942 (which she would always be happy to let you know, that is the REAL Memorial Day), to Jack and Nancy Jervis, at Butterworth Hospital in East Grand Rapids, MI.
She was a member of the first graduating class from Lowell High School in Lowell, MI in 1960. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Michigan Dearborn.
Susan spent many years as a dog handler, breeder, and groomer. Later in life she became a salesperson for North Shore Memory Gardens, educating people on the benefits of pre-needs. When Susan and Hank moved to Portage in 2000, Susan worked at Mount Ever Rest Memorial, until she retired a year later.

For those that are not familiar with Susan’s eccentric life, here is a brief synopsis. She was married three times. The first to Jim Onley. After 1 ½ years of marriage, they decided that they were better off as friends than husband and wife. The 2nd wedding is one that is not spoken of; however, it’s that marriage that created a strong dislike for the country of France. They say the 3rd time was a charm and so it was when she met Hank Pierce. One October evening as Susan was gassing her car up, heading to a dog show, Hank came out, and after a warm greeting from Sunny Whippet (it was indeed not a warm welcome), they started dating. On December 31, 1970, they were married (Hank stated he wanted the tax deduction for the year).

Susan was quite the crafter as well as an avid reader. She also enjoyed sharing her opinion on a variety of topics with everyone (whether they wanted it or not).

Susan was proceeded in death by her parents, and a brother Rusty Jervis. She is survived by her husband Hank J. Pierce, daughter Mary-Margaret (Lewis J. Lambert) Pierce-Lambert; Jeff (Jennifer) Lohraff; Grandchildren Dakota (Katja) Lambert, Nancy Lambert and Katie Lambert; Ethan Lohraff and step-grandchildren Steven, Aaron, and Hunter Pounders.

Per Susan’s wishes, she has been cremated and will be interred at North Shore Memorial Gardens. There will be a gathering at a later date. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to the Portage Public Library, or CorsoCare Hospice.
