Thomas's Obituary

Thomas Douglas McIntyre, 76, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at his home in Decatur. He was born February 4, 1949 in Detroit, MI to George Douglas and Mae Gertrude (Gust) McIntyre.

The family will host a celebration of life service at 1:00pm, Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the VFW – Post 6248, 560 N. Phelps St., Decatur. Memorial contributions may be given to the VFW – Post 6248 at the address above. Arrangements entrusted to Newell Chapel, 269-423-2561. Online condolences can be given at www.newellchapel.com.

Tom was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corp, serving overseas in Vietnam from 1968-1969. After returning state-side, he married the love of his life, Connie Krohn, on April 17, 1971 in Kalamazoo. Tom owned and operated M-40 Bar in Decatur for many years, working alongside his son and other family members for many years. He also owned several businesses in the Decatur area throughout the years. When he wasn’t working, you could find Tom outdoors, hunting at the deer camp, fishing for walleye, or trailblazing on snowmobiles. He enjoyed partaking in Pro-Am fishing tournaments, once proudly placing second. He was an exceptional dancer, especially when he polkaed with his wife, but often found a suitable partner to spin and dip when and where the music moved him. He spent time watching and re-watching classic John Wayne westerns, and TV shows like Band of Brothers and Gunsmoke, often at a volume that made you feel like a part of the action! Even though he had a tough exterior, Tom loved his family, extended family, and friends dearly.

Tom will be missed by his wife of 54 years, Connie McIntyre; his grandson, Douglas McIntyre, Jr., his great-grandson, Leo Douglas McIntyre; two step granddaughters; three step grandsons; several step great grandchildren; and his siblings, David (Sue) McIntyre, and Peggy (the late Jeff) Orr.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Douglas (the late Terry) McIntyre, Sr., and Steven McIntyre; and his parents.
