Bill's Obituary

William Albert Bowne, 86, was united with his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2024. His deep faith provides a great deal of strength, comfort and peace for his family.

Bill earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. Following his graduation from college Bill served his country in the U.S. Army. He and his young family returned to his hometown of Ionia, Michigan, where he continued his career in the family business, American Chemical Supply Company. Later he worked in sales positions for several different companies and enjoyed developing relationships with his customers.

He was a committed witness through Gideon’s International and preached as pulpit supply throughout West Michigan. Bill volunteered as a driver for the Commission on Aging and was actively involved in church life (First United Methodist, Ionia; Zion Methodist, Ionia: Galilee Baptist, Saranac; Calvary Chapel, Benton Harbor; and Pullman Bible Church, Pullman).

Bill enjoyed spending the warmer months in Glenn Shores and traveling/boondocking out west in their RV. He was an avid runner having completed countless Riverbank Runs and road races, and even ran 40 miles (in one day) to celebrate his 40th birthday. Later in life he transitioned to walking and could regularly be found on the roads near the family cottage.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie; his four children Andy (Ruth) Bowne, Jason (Debbie) Bowne, Becky (Troy) Hoople and Josh (Michelle) Bowne; Lisa Dotson and Jeff (Carol) Boone; his grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Bowne, Daniel (Jean) Fahey, Jessica Fahey, Jillian (Reno) Rodriguez, Jaycob (Angel) Lewis, Gavin Hoople, Adelaide and Wyatt Bowne, Krystina Dotson; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Adonis, and Kashton Rodriguez, Merida Fahey, Brownie Wooll, Emmett and Oliver Hunt; his sister, Joan Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith; siblings, Clement James Bowne, Warren Robert Bowne, and Beverly Watson; and his parents, Jay and Marjorie Bowne.
