I worked at SMC for many of the same years that Bill worked there. He always had a smile. A special memory I have of Bill is watching him lower the American flag in the evening. I recall one evening seeing Bill from my office window; the campus was quiet and no one was out front as Bill lowered the flag, first standing momentarily, arm and hand raised in a perfect salute. It was just Bill --nothing was for show. It was his quiet action of patriotic respect.
