William's Obituary

William Norman Swasey, 82, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, on Monday, January 24, 2022.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12pm, Saturday, January 29. 2022 at Saron Lutheran Church, 510 Main St., St. Joseph. Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyusa.org or to Saron Lutheran Church.

Bill was born November 14, 1939 in Cleveland, OH to Norman and Margaret (Haft) Swasey. He served in the United States Navy (aircraft carrier) prior to meeting and marrying Doris Lenard,1962. They had three children. In 1967, Bill proudly graduated from Kent State. Through hard work, he established The Swasey Company 1976-2008. He served as president on many boards including: CAM, Jaycees, Grosse Ile Rotary Club, Grosse Ile Lutheran Church, and The University Club of Detroit. He was appointed to Assistant Governor of Rotary International. Bill enjoyed a good party, sailing, traveling, golfing, listening to classical music, public speaking, English literature, reading, and being surrounded by friends and family. He was very giving to family, to friends, and to the community. He will be dearly missed.

Bill is survived by his wife, Doris (Lenard) Swasey; his children, Stephen (Lucy) Swasey and Susanne Swasey; his granddaughter, Melanie Swasey; and his brothers, Paul (Barbara) Swasey and Ralph (Cathy) Swasey.

He is preceded in death by his son, William Swasey, Jr.; and his parents.
