David's Obituary

David J. Bonnette, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on April 28th at the age of 83 in his home with his wife by his side, in St. Joseph, MI.

David was born on September 10th, 1940, in Holland, MI, the son of Henrietta and Gleon Bonnette. He grew up in Holland where he developed his strong work ethic, love of education and kind-hearted nature.
He was a loving husband to Louise, with whom he shared 30+ years of joy, laughter, and cherished memories.

As a father, David was a source of guidance, support, and inspiration to his children, Paul, Jean, Roy & Leslie. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and was always there to listen, offer guidance or give a comforting hug.

Professionally, David enjoyed a successful career in Education as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, Superintendent and Professor. He was a graduate of Holland High School and continued his education earning an A.B. from Hope College in 1962, an M.A. from Eastern Michigan University in 1966 and finishing his formal education earning a Ph. D. from University of Michigan in 1975. His hard work, integrity, and love to educate children and adults earned him the respect of colleagues, parents, and students alike.

In his free time, David found joy in learning, reading, golfing, grilling in any type of weather, and watching Michigan football, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones.

David will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and his ability to brighten the lives of those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, respect and laughter that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Louise; his children, Paul (Bastianella) Bonnette, Jean (Jimmy) Baranowski, Roy (Heather) Tyler, Leslie (Sam) Kovacevic; his grandchildren, Sofia, Jordan, Nicholas and Maranda, four brothers, Tom (Diane), Mark (Lynn), John (Joanne), Steve (Jodi) and his sister Julie (Fred) Galley.

David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jimmy.
