Rebecca Teresa Weichhand, formerly of Stevensville, and most recently of Washington, DC, went to heaven on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Becky was born Feb. 25, 1982 in Marion, Ohio to Dave and Beth Weichhand.
She grew up in Stevensville, Michigan, attended Christ Lutheran School and graduated from Lakeshore Highschool. After playing Volleyball at Cornerstone University, Becky studied at Regent University where she graduated with a JD. Becky was a member of the Virginia Bar.
Becky knew at an early age she wanted to go into law. It was on a college mission trip to Romania working with abandoned children, that she began to understand just how she would use her law degree. Becky’s many experiences of personal growth included being a Blackstone Fellow, the C.S. Lewis Institute and European Center for Law and Justice. After interning with National Council on Adoption in Alexandria, VA, Becky put her eyes on Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. Several conversations later in 2009, she was hired as Assistant to the Director. In 2014 Becky became Executive Director of CCAI.
Becky served her Jesus in Washington, DC, advocating for children around the world. The goal: Every Child Deserves a Loving Family. Becky traveled the world and the country with others with the same goal. Yet, she always looked forward to coming home to her family, friends and to our home, to journal and take early morning walks to search for Beach Glass at our family cottage in South Haven.
She will be deeply missed by her Mom, Beth Weichhand Steere and her Dad in heart, Bill Steere; her sisters, Sarah Weichhand, of Nashville, TN; Laura (Jason) Helveston of Chicago; her brother Joshua (Grace) Weichhand, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; her sister Hanna (Drew) Brennan of Ada, Michigan and brother Andy (Mardi) Steere of Kenya and her nieces and nephews: Will, Quinn, Riley, Liam, Glori, Jeddy, Cartney, Margot, Micah and Levi.
Others that loved her are: Rick and Tess Robinson, Tom Robinson, Deidre Robinson and Dave and Sharon Robinson, Ken and Marilyn Weichhand, Kurt and Beth Ann Weichhand, Lisa and Mike Mancini, Tim Kernosky and Grandma, Dolores Weichhand. Her cousins: Nick, Maggie, Matt, Zack, Alyssa, Jessica, Michael, Katie, Stephanie, Stephen, Lisa, Pat, Eric, Joe, Greg, Drew, Alex, Morgan, Shawn and Brittney and her dear friends who she did life with.
Her Dad, Dave Weichhand, Grandparents, Tom and Audrey Robinson and Harry Weichhand along with Aunt Pam, Uncles Bill and Jerry and cousin Jonathan were there to greet her as she entered Jesus’ presence. We know it was a party!
A Celebration of Life was held in Washington DC at National Community Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10 AM at First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., Saint Joseph with her brother-in-law, Jason, officiating.
