John was a great man that loved his Family,Country,Mother Earth, Music and his students. First met John at Benton Harbor Area Schools,The Music instrument storage shared the same building as the Audio Visual Dept. Our family enjoyed participating with John at many of the Lest We Forget Reenactments, Veterans Tributes and Parades. Riding in his Pre WW 2 Jeep was always a Memorable Experience! I Will ALWAYS remember the trip from Millburg to the Galien Memorial Day Parade. John was driving, one of his loving Saint Bernards was riding shotgun , while his neighbor and I rode in the Back. Hair was flying everywhere LOL. We will miss John!!! Heartfelt condolences to his family. Rob,Dee and Shawn Kesterke

A fine, good man. We honor his Taps at Lest We Forget concerts, and are grateful for our acquaintance with him. Godspeed, John!

My grandparents, mom, aunts and uncles all lived in the same neighborhood as Mr. Nelson and after my grandparents passed, I purchased the family home. I have many memories of Mr. Nelson’s Saint Bernards over the years, seeing him walk them around the block and during the Blossomtime Parade. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
