Emma's Memory Wall

Jean was a wonderful person and so pleasant to be around. I have fond memories of going to the Tasty Grill when I was a little boy. Hayden made the best pies in the Mid-West. Lucy considered Jean to be her shirt-tail sister because they were both from the South. I remember the day we got the call about Tom getting killed in the Vietnam War. But through all that happened with Jean's family over the years, she was a stalwart in her faith in God. Most mild mannered person I have known. God bless her grand kids now and hope to see y'all next year in St. Joe.

I have fond memories of the Herndon family. I was the military escort for Jean's nephew, Ricky Lynn, at his burial in Batesville in August of 1967. The whole Herndon family treated me as if I were one of their own.
The Tasty Grill was right next to Herald's Nursery and Garden Center. Harold was my father-in-law. He ate there often and knew Hayden and Jean very well.

Jeanie was a very special lady. My first job was at the Tasty Grill and Jeanie taught me many things about life when I was at a very impressionable age. She always taught and served with love and kindness. I was a classmate of Linda’s and spent a lot of time at the house. Jeanie always welcomed me and made me feel like family. A true testament to her character was her steadfast faith during so many of her family tragedies. She never wavered and was an example to all. May you all find strength, comfort and peace in your memories and in looking forward to the reunion you will have with her some day.

I was thinking about Jean the other day as I was reminded of her favorite song, "His Eye is on the Sparrow". I smiled fondly, and thought I must get that music out and play that song when we are able to go back to church. The next day, I found out that she had passed. I am pretty sure that Jesus got the biggest hug ever, when Jean walked through the Pearly Gates. That lady has left such an impression on so many lives. Yes! She definitely showed up for life and didn't want to miss out on anything! We found our common ground in Jesus and that we both have roots in the Batesville, Arkansas area . She was also a special friend to my Grandma who hailed from Oil Trough, Arkansas. The girls met late in life and loved talking about their years "back home". My prayers are with all of Jean's family and close friends. There is going to be a big void many hearts. I will treasure the precious moments spent with her - especially eating out on Sunday after church - and look forward to being reunited in Heaven.

I feel so very blessed getting to know sweet Emma this past winter at the Whitcomb. Dana, know that you brightened her day with your constant attendance visiting Emma. I think my mom often thought Emma was her sister, who was also Emma. Sincere sympathy to your family.

I worked with Jean in the 60's at Holly's. Her and her husband were a pleasure to work with. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Early memories of Jeannie and Hayden include the long ago friendly Herndon's Grill in south St. Joe. So many good breakfasts there! They were both such hard workers and cared for so many others in so many ways. Over the years their home on LaSalle Ave was welcoming too. They faced so much family tragedy with strong faith. My last visit with Jeannie was at the Whitcomb last Fall, before leaving for Florida. Her smiling face and spirit are embellished in my memory. Blessings for all of you 'grands' as you go forward in her legacy. Fondly, Nancy Green

Dana, I got to know your grandmother from waiting on her and your mom at Martin’s. There was a time when I couldn’t tell them apart. Your grandmother was such a special person and I just loved to see her come in. It makes me sad to know I won’t see her again, but she is in a much better place with the rest of her family. I will never forget her. She was a very special lady!

Jean and I had a soul connection. We shared laughter, tears and peanut butter pie. My loss is her gain as she reunites with her beloved children and Hayden in heaven. Thank you Jeannie, I Love You ❤️

I wonder if Jean has finished hugging everyone in Heaven yet. Probably not. Jean was an extraordinary person who showed so much love no matter what she was going through. I will miss her so much but I know a time will come when I can get another one (or a 1000) of her hugs. Dana, you were a saint. Jean’s final years were so much better with you by her side. One of God’s most precious has gone home to live with him and she will be missed. Madge Bibler

Miss Jean as I knew her as, was a very faithful woman who love her LORD, her family, her church & her friends. She was a hugger. She loved to give people hugs. Her hugs will be missed. If i failed to get a hug from Miss Jean on Sunday mornings at church, there was only one reason - She was not at church that morning. She did not miss many services - she was faithful till the end. Bye Miss Jean. You will always have a place in both Judy & my heart.
Miss Jean loved her children, grand children & great grand children. Dana - You & your family will be in our prayers. Your Grand Mother was well loved & she will be missed. She was a true saint .
God bless & we will keep you & yours in our prayers.

Dana, Your grandmother was a role model to me in many ways, especially with growing older and aging, Leaving your physical body on the earthy plane is difficult for those left behind, and you have been the one constant person these past few years. Bless you for that, I know being a caregiver is not easy.
Jeannie will remain forever young in my heart. I knew she and Hayden since 1965. We even visited them in Arkansas and Hayden caught catfish which Jeannie fried up with hushpuppies I got an order of hushpuppies the other day in her honor, but of course, not half as good as hers. And Hayden taught me how to make good homemade pies. I have many wonderful memories of them , your mom Corrine, Aunt Lou, and Uncle Tommy. I will cherish those memories, they were always a part of my life , and always will be. Love you, Pat Burnette
