Frederick's Memory Wall
We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of Frederick here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
I first met Fred in 1984 when he served as the Finance Director of the local community action agency while I was the Associate Director there. I will never forget our first meeting, and the many subsequent discussions we have had over the years on private sector service expansion, resource development, and the developing global market of the human services & finance industry. Fred was clear, focused, and a true visionary. Our friendship never waivered over the past 37 years, and no matter where my career took me, I could always depend on the encouragement, enlightenment & wise counsel of my friend. When we last spoke during early Summer 2019, we promised to speak again before the end of the year, Then suddenly, I noticed that my calls were not being returned, and he was not posting on FB. I am sure that I left him a few "dirty-mouthed" messages. It was not until I began posting a "Happy Birthday" message to him on FB last week that I discovered why my friend was not responding to my calls & FB messages. I was devastated, heartbroken, and so sad. But thank GOD, my little "Nikki-Pooh" saw my post and reached out to me. That child has a "heart of gold" ... just like her father. I cannot express my gratitude to her enough for her thoughtfulness and care toward me. Fred Gibby was my friend, my brother, my faithful counselor and my professional colleague. He was brilliant, kind, and empathetic to the needs of the community-at-large, and to the human condition. He was truly a "Man of GOD" who encompassed the spirit of kindness, and compassion. I will truly miss my friend!

I first met Fred in 1972 where we attended Kellogg Community College together. I was immediately drawn to this big guy's kind, gentle demeanor, soft voice and persistent smile. I would occasionally give him a ride to Loretta's house while her parents were at work, so that he and Loretta could share a little private time together. I recall him being a little concerned of her parents' acceptance of him and their relationship. Obviously, her parents must have been as impressed with Fred as we all were. I am proud to have played a small role in the enduring relationship of this very special couple. Very sad indeed to hear of his passing. To Loretta, his children and entire family, our love and heartfelt condolences. I wish we could be there to help share and celebrate the memories with each other. All the best.

Loretta,
I have many pleasant memories of you and Fred over the years, especially Fred's cheerful and helpful presence on the Samaritan Center board. Board meetings were never "bored" meetings with Fred around. I will always appreciate his many contributions to the Center and to so many other organizations in the community. My heart goes out to you as you grieve his death. With fond memories, Glenn Chapman.
