Robert "Bob"'s Memory Wall
We encourage you to share your most beloved memories of Robert "Bob" here, so that the family and other loved ones can always see it. Share your favorite stories or comment on those shared by others.
Dear Diana, Michele, Michael and Family,
There are certainly no adequate words to ease the sadness that each of you feel at loosing Bob. Though I’m certain the messages and words of support you’ve received from the countless people Bob as touched in his all too short lifetime are a small measure of help.
The friendship, thoughtfulness and support Bob offered over the years to our parents, Charles (Bud) and Pauline Pence, will never be forgotten by my brother Jim and I. During times that were hard for our family, he was present to be of help and offer words of encouragement. Bob was also there during wonderful times as well, offering laughter, kindness and willingness to pitch in and get involved in any project. Know that such a kind and giving man will not be forgotten but rather remembered with gratitude and a smile.

I met Bob after I retired and got involved with the North Berrien Military Rites Team, the American Legion, and VFW. Early on, it became clear to me that Bob was a true family man and proud Veteran. He always made himself available, even when his health, at times, wouldn't allow him to do all he felt he should. Bob had many health issues, brought about by service to his country, but he always had a big smile, was always a Proud Veteran, and always there to Volunteer to help those less fortunate. On December 8th, I lost a good friend and we Veterans lost a true Veteran's Advocate. Rest in Peace my friend, you served well and will not be forgotten.

Bob was one of the greatest, caring people I know. He handled my dad's military funeral with honor. He was pall bearer to both of my parents. Always so much fun when my parents and Diana's parents had the lake property. Always a smile! You will so be missed my friend. R.I.P.

From the first time my dad introduced me to Bob at the VFW, I knew I was in the presence of greatness. From his strong love of country to his devotion to his family and friends to his commitment to his new faith, he was an honorable, steadfast, loyal, supportive, unique individual. As odd as it might sound, whenever I would come home to visit, I always looked forward to going to Mass on Sunday morning so I could see Bob and Diana. They were like family, no matter the amount of distance or time between us. I know that Dad welcomed Bob into heaven with open arms (as well as a military salute?) -- two buddies back together again. I'll miss Bob tremendously, but I certainly feel blessed to have gotten to know him.

Bob was an active member in the Knights of Columbus Council 1120 at SS John and Bernard Catholic Church. He was well respected within our council and gave much of his time and talents for our parish community in the 10 years I have known him. He volunteered for many council activities. I remember how helpful he was at our Lenten fish fry dinners and I enjoyed working with him. Bob always had a smile on his face. He will be missed and my prayers go out to all of his family and friends. We all loved Bob.

I loved how when ever he saw my Mom he would hug and kiss her and call her "Ma". He was so genuine! ❤

Dear Diana and family -
I got to know Bob through the Knights of Columbus and our parish, Ss John and Bernards. He was a great man, authentic and genuine. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Back in the day, we worked several parish picnics together, showing that he also had a fun loving side, giving everyone nicknames that stuck. My wife Darla and I and my three sons were blessed to be able to call him our friend. He was a great American and man of the Lord. Rest in peace my friend, your earthly watch is done. Eternal Rest grant unto him Lord, and let perpetual light shine on him.

Dear Diana, Family & friends, I am so very sorry to read of your loss tonight. What a great guy! He lit up the room when he entered, and lit up my life when he came near. Keep that favorite picture of him nearby and continue to enjoy all of those beautiful memories. I will keep Bob, as well as all of you in my thoughts & Prayers.
I will offer a Mass for Bob in the morning - do let me know if there's anything I can do. You were both so very special to me. I know we have another friend in Heaven tonight! Sending you a "Virtual Hug" and my Love & Prayers,

Heaven may have gained a new angel but the veterans just lost their best friend. Bob fought for his fellow veterans from the jungles of Vietnam to the floor of the state house. Bob fought hard to change the plight of the average veteran who thought they had no hope. Even when his personal health started failing that didn't slow him down in his quest. From politicians to paupers Bob was known by many .I was proud to call him my friend. Being on the North Berrien Military rites team I worked very closely with Bob. Several hundreds of times Bob was the one who presented the flag to the deceased veterans loved ones to honor their service to this nation. He set a fine example for his fellow man and fellow veterans. Bob's passing will leave a very large void in many peoples lives and he will be dearly missed. May God grant the family peace and strength in the days and weeks to come. One day I will see your bright smile again. Till then rest my friend. you've earned it.
